LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. (WXIX) – A man is dead following an officer-involved shooting Saturday morning at the Hollywood Casino Hotel in Lawrenceburg, according to Indiana State Police. An initial investigation by ISP indicates Lawrenceburg Police were called to the hotel around 1 a.m. following a report of a disturbance on the fourth floor.Information provided to police said a man was threatening and chasing another person with a knife, according to a news release.The victim sustained minor injuries.Indiana State Police say three Lawrenceburg officers arrived at the scene and discovered the man was firing shots on the fourth floor. Police say they found the man in the fourth floor hallway.“Commands were given for him to drop the gun. Pretty soon shots started to be fired by the suspect and the officers,” said Sgt. Stephen Wheeles with Indiana State Police.Troopers say the suspect was struck at least once and was pronounced dead at the scene.“There was a lot of people running in and out and all along the parking area next to the buildings were fire trucks, ambulances and police. It was lit up like the fourth of July or something,” said Thomas Hamilton who lives nearby.None of the officers were injured.The suspect’s identity is being withheld until the Dearborn County Coroner can identify him and next of kin are notified. It’s believed the victim and the suspect did not know each other.Police checked on the hotel guests and worked with hotel staff to move guests out of the area where the shooting happened, troopers said. No other injuries were reported. “Someone lost their life and it’s our responsibility to gather all that information, because unfortunately a family has lost a loved one that we need to provide those answers too,” Sgt. Wheeles said.The names of the officers involved are being withheld at this time.They are all being placed on administrative leave as part of normal Lawrenceburg Police Department protocols.Indiana State Police are still investigating the incident.
