ISP investigating police shooting at southern Indiana casino



The incident happened around 1 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Hollywood Casino and Hotel in Lawrenceburg.

LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. — Indiana State Police is assisting with the investigation into deadly police shooting involving the Lawrenceburg Police Department at a southern Indiana casino. 

According to a release from ISP, around 1 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, a disturbance was reported on the fourth floor of the Hollywood Casino and Hotel in Lawrenceburg. A man was allegedly threatening and chasing another person with a knife. 

Three officers with the LPD arrived on scene and learned that the male suspect had begun firing a handgun on the fourth floor of the hotel. Police rushed to the fourth floor and reportedly found the man in the hallway. 

Police say the man began shooting at the officers, causing the officers to return fire. One of the officers struck and killed the suspect during the shootout. 

A victim was given minor injuries after the suspect reportedly confronted them with a knife prior to police arrival. After the shootout, police checked the welfare of other hotel guests and worked with hotel staff to move guests staying in rooms near the crime scene to other rooms. 

The identity of the officer who fatally shot the suspect is being withheld pending the investigation and they have been placed on administrative leaver, per LPD protocol.
